A unique experience of exchange year
The one-week Workshops were in Washington DC, and there were around 100 FLEX students from over the country and American Council Staff. During this time we had an opportunity to visit a lot of museums and famous memorials. Moreover, when we were in front of the White House - everybody was surprised by how small this is. In photos, the building seems bigger. Everyday we ate in restaurants, my favorite was the Hard Rock Cafe.
Capitol Hill Day was the best because every student met with politicians. I visited two senate offices and I met the representative on the Capitol Stairs - we spoke for around half an hour. In the evening we went to the Kennedy Center for an amazing theatrical performance where we had an impact on how the action would unfold.
Still, after the workshops, I miss my friends from many Asian and European countries. What is more, after meeting with FLEX Alumni in our hotel (Marriott) I realized that after my exchange year I will be still FLEX-er and I will have opportunities to cooperate with American Councils. After meeting in the Department of State I am motivated to do volunteering in my country. The whole workshops and other events organized by FLEX and host organizations were for free - it was a big surprise for me.
