Amelia’s experience in the US

Amelia, our FLEX student from the year 2021/2022 shared a story about her American experience with us.

The idea of going on an exchange year to a foreign country may seem scary at first. You're not sure what to expect and are concerned about making friends and fitting in in the United States.

I'm here to tell you that these feelings are completely normal, and I experienced the same thing. Last August, I began my exchange year, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. As soon as I started school and I started attending school events, making friends became really easy.

Everyone was interested in my home country, and I was delighted to share my culture with my classmates. I formed strong bonds not only with Americans, but also with other exchange students and teachers. Going to American football games every Friday night was undoubtedly one of the highlights of studying in the US. The atmosphere was incredible, and even though I didn't understand any of the game rules, I had a great time.

My friendships and connections from my exchange year are unbreakable, and despite the distance between the United States and Poland, I am still in contact with everyone. I know that no matter where I am in the world, I can still count on my friends in the United States.

If you're hesitant about going on an exchange year, I say go for it. You'll have the time of your life and create unforgettable memories.
